Assemble studio build commences

Ladies and gentlemen, start your power tools! The construction of our new studio space at the foot of Ruckers Hill in Northcote has begun. We’ve designed our studio with great care, as a space that will be inspiring for staff and visitors alike. ┬áMost nights and weekends you’ll find us here with rolled up sleeves, a Big M in hand, trying to dutifully follow the orders of Wes Old and his team (of actual skilled tradespeople!) from Local Spaces, who we’ll be sharing the space with when it’s complete. Coming from a design (and desk job) background, it’s a real eye opener to witness and learn from the handiwork and exceptional attention to detail of Wes and his team. Mark┬áCoules, master carpenter, has been overseeing the intricate construction of our pine batten roof, which consists of a triangular, origigami-inspired pattern. We had a bit of breakthrough the other day when we realised that it’s sort of the inverse of a traditional gabled roof! Thanks to Local Spaces and also our wonderful team of volunteer helpers: Chelsea, Lauren, Carlo, Irina, Simon, Georgie, James, Jono and Josh.
