Assemble x tin&ed – Utopia City workshop
August 4, 2015
So… another year of Open House Melbourne is officially under wraps! And we are so proud to have been part of all the excitement in 2015. Sunday 26 July marked our Utopia City workshop for kids (big and small) – presented in collaboration with grown-up designers tin&ed, who generously applied their playful direction to our quickly growing metropolis.
Using recycled dowel and Educational Colours modelling clay, we invited budding city-builders to dream up and create their very own Utopian City – and what better place to do so than overlooking the CBD, high up from the John Wardle and NADAAA-designed Melbourne School of Design (one of the many buildings that opened its doors to the public for Open House this year).
Among some of the mind-bending structures the day produced, we observed cleverly constructed bridges, many skyscrapers, and some very sophisticated pavilions – all employing the colour blue favourably! We’re confident the day was a huge success with one tiny city builder declaring, “I’m free next weekend to come back and build again!”
Check out our Facebook gallery to see what our future city-designers have in store for Melbourne – we managed to capture a few snaps before younger sibling ‘city-destroyers’ swept in!
